The Good. The Bad. The Ugly: A Must Read!

I never enjoyed reading until recently. Growing up, my older sister would ride her bike to the library to check out new books just about every day. She was a true book worm. My youngest sister followed right in her footsteps.

I never will forget when the Twilight Saga was the 'must read' books. My sisters kept telling me I needed to read them. Read! I had better things to do, but I gave in. I loved the series and read it all in one week. Same with Hunger Games, Divergent, and my all time favorite Redeeming Love.

These books had one thing in comman. People would give them to me and say you must read this. I'd take them and put them on a shelf where they would sit FOREVER until I had absolutely nothing better to do. Once I finally caved and started reading past the first few chapters; I couldn't put them down! Now I love to read. I'm a read the book before the movie addict.

Although I recommend all those books for a good read, there is only one book that is a must read; and that is the Holy Bible. I have been guilty too many times of letting my Bible sit on a shelf for way too long. When I do open the Word and begin to read and study it, I can't put it down. But it's that first step that always seems the hardest. Just opening it. I let the pleasures of this world take priority.

"Thy word is a lamp into my feet and a light into my path." |Psalm 119:105|

Today I read the parable about the wise man and a foolish man. One built his house on a rock and the other on sand. When the storms came only one remained standing. The house of the wise man built on the rock.

When the storms of life come, I want to be as a wise man that builds his foundation on the Word of God. Not a foolish man that relies only on Scriptures read on social media or quick devotionals here and there.

"And the rains descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat up on the house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock." |Matthew 7:25|

  1. Do you write dates by the passages that you read? If so, that's such a neat idea. I want to start doing that. I have a large journal that I use while reading the bible, but sometimes I feel like I spend too much time in the journal and not enough time in His Word.

  2. I love reading scriptures first before reading a novel. I want to nurture my relationship with God before picking up other books to read. I like that you have dated yours. I have my scriptures on my kindle fire, I can book mark sections and add sm. thoughts I might be having at that moment. It's like a scripture journal.
