Who doesn't love this fairytale movie that is a modern spin of Cinderella? A prostitute falling for a businessman that offers her a new life despite her past and how insignificant she seems to others. What woman doesn't dream of being swept off her feet...
Today I want to focus on another "pretty woman". A prostitute willing to risk it all for love and a God she barely knew. She is one of only two women listed in the Hall of Faith.
"By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies,
was not killed with those who were disobedient."
Hebrews 11:31
Rahab. What is the first word that comes to mind…prostitute. I'm sure this is how most would describe this pretty woman; however, God saw so much more. He recognized simple faith and knew she would be instrumental in the Israelites victory over Jericho. She didn't allow her past to keep her from the task God had at hand.
"I know the Lord has given this land to you…"
Joshua 2:9
In this love story, we know Rahab lowers a scarlet rope from her window; sparing the life of her and everyone in her house. She received the redeeming love of an all-powerful God that day. She rose above her circumstances through her trust in God. She did not let fear affect her faith in God's ability to deliver her and give her a new life.
I confess. At times, I feel like I'm a prostitute…willing to sell myself to this world. And for what? But today, God has reminded me I am worth so much more. And so are you.
"So be very careful to love the Lord your God."
Joshua 23:11
God gave His one and only son for us. His blood to cover our past sins; delivering us and giving us new life in Him. Rest in His redeeming love today. Embrace the pretty woman you are.
You are God's pretty woman!!!
